Fannie Montague



Fannie Montague, 78 of Raleigh, NC passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at Montgomery County Hospice in Maryland. She was born in Warren County, NC on June 9, 1940 to the late Zollie and Sylvia Brandt.

She attended Henderson Institute High School and graduated in 1957. After, High School, Fannie attended Saint Augustine’s College (class of 1963), where she pledged Sigma Gamma Rho.

In 1963, she met her husband of 48 years, the late Maryland Montague.
Fannie lived in Brooklyn, NY where she taught Health and Physical Education at Junior High School 275 in Brooklyn, NY (Brownsville Section). She moved back to Raleigh in 1979 where she was employed by the City of Raleigh. During her tenure she was awarded “employee of the year” twice, 1989 & 1997. From 1996 until her retirement in 2002, she worked with the family violence unit of the Raleigh Police Department.

She was an avid member of Oak City Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC until she relocated to Maryland to be closer to her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Deidra M. Couch and husband Aaron of Metro, DC; three grandchildren, Tashiara High of Raleigh, NC, Louis and Jillian Couch of DC; sisters, Martha Allen, Mary Davis, Betty Bullock; brothers, William and Junious Brandt and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service: 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Oak City Baptist Church, 726 Method Road, Raleigh, NC.

Visitation: one hour preceding the service at the church.

Interment: Carolina Biblical Gardens, Garner, NC.
